Mental health practitioners

Our surgeries may have access to both Adult Mental Health Practitioners and Children and Young People’s Mental Health Practitioners (CYPMHPs).

We are committed to ensuring that all of the practices that we support have access to both services as soon as possible.

Mental Health Practitioners are valued members of our multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing specialist support for patients experiencing mental health difficulties.

Depending on your needs and the arrangements at your surgery, they may contact you by telephone or invite you to an appointment to discuss your concerns and assess the support you need.

They may continue to provide ongoing support themselves or, where appropriate, refer or signpost you to other local mental health, community or voluntary services that are better placed to meet your individual needs.

Adult Mental Health Practitioners are predominantly employed by Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), the local NHS provider of mental health services Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Tendring Primary Care Network (PCN) helps fund these services so that patients can access specialist mental health support through their GP practice. This partnership helps ensure that patients receive timely care from the healthcare professional best placed to support their mental health needs.

Children and Young People’s Mental Health Practitioners (CYPMHPs) work in a similar way, supporting children, young people, and their families by assessing their mental health needs, providing advice and appropriate short-term interventions, and helping them access specialist services where needed.

These practitioners are predominantly employed by North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) Southend, Essex and Thurrock (SET) CAMHS | NELFT NHS Foundation Trust. They work closely with GP’s and healthcare professionals of our practices and other local services to ensure that children and young people receive the most appropriate support at the right time. Their involvement helps provide earlier access to mental health care and ensures families are guided towards the services best suited to their needs.

As the need for mental health support continues to grow among adults, children, and young people, Tendring Primary Care Network (PCN) is committed to ensuring that all of the surgeries we support have access to Mental Health Practitioners. By bringing specialist mental health professionals into primary care, we aim to provide timely, accessible support and help patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
